The kokiriko originated in Japan as a sound effect instrument. Meinl´s Kokiriko consists of solid wood plates tied
together with a durable cord and attached to a handle.
The kokiriko produces a "rattling" effect which, depending on playing intensity,
can be an almost silent rustling to an extremely loud chatter.
The ergonomically shaped handle provides for player comfort.

Another traditional African instrument within the Meinl program is the berimbau.
This instrument, having made its way through several cultures, is very prevalent in Brazil and other countries of South America.
The berimbau looks and sounds exotic. Practice is the key to learning how to correctly play this instrument in order
to get the traditional sound. Three parts are involved: the metal plate, the small caxixi, and the stick.
In order to improve sensitivity and durability, premium fiberglass is used in the construction of the Meinl Berimbau.
Meinl forms the calabash and the other parts from premium fiberglass. This not only makes the berimbau "stage-proof",
but equalizes the volume generated by the various parts.
Accessories include a small caxixi, a metal plate, and a stick.

Originally, South American rainmakers are made from a dried cactus and filled with various grains.
Thorns are pressed through the outside wall and protrude into the inner cavity of the cactus.
When the grains fall over the thorns a "drizzling" rain effect is produced.
Today many tube-shaped plastic versions exist, but the Meinl Rainmaker is uniquely different.
Due to the circular construction of the Meinl Rainmaker, it can be easily mounted to a cymbal stand.
By simply turning the instrument a drizzle can immediately change into the sound of a monsoon.
The major advantage over other rainmakers is that the sound can be continuous, without false changes in intensity.
The durable body is made from premium fiberglass and produces a very loud effect.
