Meinl Cymbal Alloys Alloy & Casting:

Meinl Cymbal alloys are manufactured according to our requirements and are cast in Germany. The main ingredient of all these alloys is premium copper. Depending on the cymbal series, each alloy contains varying proportions of pure tin, nickel, or zinc.
Cymbal Alloy

Before the casting process begins, the mixture is laboratory tested in order to analyze the exact chemical composition of the alloy.
Cymbals Casting Process

Once the correct mixture of compounds is verified, the casting process can begin.
Cymbals Rolling and Cutting Rolling & Cutting:

After the bronze ingots have cooled, they are reheated in a furnace and immediately transferred to a trestle to begin the rolling process. After several successive rolling procedures, perfectly compressed bronze sheets are extruded. These cooled sheets are then rolled again into plates of different thicknesses.
Cymbals Shaping and Hammering Round blanks with various diameters are then cut out of these plates and delivered to the Meinl cymbal smithy for further treatment.

Shaping & Hammering:

Having arrived at the Meinl cymbal smithy, the blanks first are quality checked, also for consistency of temper.
Cymbal Production

Depending on the series and type, the cymbal bell is then pressed into the blank by either a cold or a hot shaping process. A true Meinl specialty is the forging of the heat treated bell by extensive hammering.
Cymbal Final Shape

Next, the blanks of the Meinl Student Range, for example, are pressed into their final shape by a special process which establishes the fundamental pitch of the instrument.
